Occupational Therapy

IEA offers an on-site Certified Occupational Therapist and Therapy Assistant.

Sensory Processing is defined as ones ability to take in sensory information from ones body and the environment, organize this information, and use it to function in daily life.  It allows us to survive, make sense of the world, and to interact with the environment in meaningful ways.

However, some children have difficulty with filtering and regulating the amount of sensory stimulation they receive and can respond to throughout the day.  The purpose of a sensory diet is to provide controlled sensory-based activities that can help with self-regulation (i.e. attention, behavior).

The sensory room at IEA has a variety of items to assist the students with receiving stimulation, as well as identifying calming and organizing strategies to maintain an optimal level of attention and behavior in the classroom.  Each individual sensory diet plan is developed and closely monitored by the occupational therapist.
