Social Skills Building
Many of students at IEA are unable to pick up on the social cues that come so naturally to their typical peers. Our teachers, counselors and aides all help to ensure that students are developing appropriate social skills. Throughout the course of the day, students are prompted, as needed, to respond and interact appropriately. Students may have flash cards that help remind them how to respond to recurring situations.
Our Counseling Team host a regular lunch bunches. Students are able to engage with one another socially, with support as necessary. Our Speech & Language Pathologists help students form "Friend Files" to help students identify and retain important information to social interactions.
