Distance Learning

IEA's Distance Learning Plan

IEA's Distance Learning Plan

The IEA Distance Learning Program is intended to:

  • Keep students academically active;
  • Reinforce existing concepts/content;  and
  • When appropriate, introduce new curricular content and concepts.

IEA Learning Modules

Modules will be provided to students via hard or electronic copies of assignments, specific website logins, or information via Google Classroom.

Modules will avoid large, extended assignments or assessments, unless they are chunked into smaller assignments or tasks.

IEA Distance Learning Implementation

All students are expected to participate at a level mutually agreed upon by the teacher and the parent/guardian.

Teachers will work closely with families to identify student capacity and capabilities throughout the weeks that distance learning is in process, acknowledging that this can change regularly as circumstances continue to change.

All students have been offered IEA devices, or given the opportunity to use their personal home devices. IEA has an iPad or Chromebook available to every student. Paper materials are being provided to students as necessary (per their programming or a lack of technology available). Additionally, IEA currently has been mailing home materials as needed or delivering via IEA’s courier service.

Teachers will send a daily message to students/parents via email or a specific website (i.e. Google Classroom, SeeSaw). The purpose of the email is to greet students and provide additional directions or clarification of assignments based on the needs of the teacher’s class.

Daily and/or weekly learning modules will be developed by the teachers. Teachers will communicate with parents regarding assignments.  Sample schedules will be provided to families.

Teachers will be available at designated times throughout the day to respond and communicate with students and parents for the purpose of clarifying assignments, providing student feedback, and instructional support.

The primary means of communication with parents and caregivers will be through school email. When appropriate and necessary, teachers will also provide calls to parents or caregivers.

Teachers will assess student progress on an ongoing basis and provide regular feedback to students.

Specials Teachers will provide weekly assignments, provide email support to parents and students, and when appropriate and possible, provide direct instruction via video conferencing.

Reading Interventionists will review plans and, when appropriate, make supplemental work available that aligns with individual student goals. Interventionists will regularly correspond with their students, providing ongoing support when needed and as appropriate.

Related Service Providers will collaborate with families, students and members of each child’s team. Each provider will provide structured availability to parents and/or students so that they can be in contact with their provider directly. An individualized plan will be implemented in order to best support every child’s needs. Per those specific needs, their services may be supplemented through co-teaching whole-group lessons, activities and tasks to be completed at home, or through video conferencing.

Here are some tips to help you support your child during Distance Learning:

  • Establish routines and expectations to maintain a familiar rhythm of the day.
  • Balance screen time and non-screen time activities.
  • Students should take brain breaks and move regularly as they engage in the activities and study.
  • Discuss what your child is learning and ask questions.
  • Establish times for quiet and reflection.
  • Remain mindful of your child’s stress.
  • Communicate with your child’s teachers or with related services personnel .
