Norovirus Health Update

IEA continues to experience some cases of gastrointestinal (GI) illness. We continue to report to the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District on a regular basis. Based on the type of illness we are seeing here, the health district has advised us to treat this illness like Norovirus, the most common cause of gastrointestinal illness in the US. Norovirus is very contagious. For this reason, we will be continuing our precautions for the foreseeable future. Here are some documents with information about Norovirus. Please note that many typical household cleaners do not kill Norovirus, nor does alcohol, which is found in hand sanitizer and some cleaners.

We will continue to ask all individuals who experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and/or abdominal pain to remain home until 48 hours after their last episode of illness, and that you call or email Mrs. LeDuc, our school nurse, about any student or staff member experiencing these symptoms. 860-310-2784, ieanurse@ie-academy.org.
