IEA Closure Extended - March 31

Dear Parents,

As you are likely aware, Governor Lamont has issued an Executive Order closing schools through March 31st. As such, IEA will be extending our closing through the 31st as well. At this time, we expect to resume school on April 1st, but we will continue to follow all recommendations and orders from the state. We will keep you informed as further developments become available, so please continue to check your email for updates.

Additionally, we have received notice from the Connecticut Commissioner of Education that recommends moving towards a distance learning model. As the Commissioner states, we are “shift[ing] thinking from supplemental learning, which was intended for short-term cancellations, to distance learning, which is intended to serve as an alternative to learning in a school house.”

The goal of distance learning is to continue moving students forward in their education, but will not replicate a classroom structure. It will allow for the flexibility that is needed given the current circumstances and our students’ unique learning needs. We understand that distance learning can be new to our students and our teachers will continue to personalize instruction and expectations.

Our teachers will be reaching out in the next few days to share how this model will look for each student and class. If students are in need of their iPads, Chromebooks or textbooks, please call the Main Office at 860.236.2049 x. 110 to make arrangements for pick up. Our goal is to provide related services to our students as well during this time and details regarding that process will follow in the coming days.

We have started listing some resources that may be helpful during this time on our website.  Please feel free to take a look or let us know if there are additional resources you need.

We know that this is a time of uncertainty and stress for your family and your child. We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to navigate these new and ever changing circumstances. If there is anything we can help your family with during this time, please do not hesitate to reach out.
